New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 results today, September 4. This marks the 10th iteration of the annual process that assesses universities nationwide across various categories.
The rankings this year cover 17 categories, including engineering, medical, law, innovation, and skill universities. A notable addition in 2025 is a new category focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting institutions’ contributions to global sustainability efforts.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has retained its top position in the management stream, reaffirming its dominance. IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode secured the second and third ranks respectively.

Launched in 2015, the NIRF ranks institutions based on multiple criteria including teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
Over the years, NIRF has become a vital point of reference for students, parents, and policymakers in evaluating and comparing India’s higher education landscape.
