NBC Releases Final 8 Episodes Of ‘Friends’ Spin-Off ‘Joey’ For First Time In US

Nearly 20 years later, NBC is giving fans of Matt LeBlanc‘s Friends spin-off Joey have some long-overdue closure. Following the sitcom’s two-season run from 2004 to 2006, which was cut short domestically amid low ratings, the final eight episodes are available to watch for the first time in the United States. All episodes of Joey are now available on the official Friends YouTube channel after NBC began uploading the series earlier this year. Premiering on NBC four months after Friends ended its monumental 10-season run, Joey followed the LeBlanc’s titular actor Joey Tribbiani after he moves to Los Angeles, where his new sitcom is cancelled, forcing him to reunite with his sister Gina (Drea de Matteo) move in with his genius nephew Michael (Paulo Costanzo). Created by Scott Silveri and Shana Goldberg-Meehan, the series also starred Jennifer Coolidge, Andrea Anders, Miguel A. Núñez Jr. and Ben Falcone. Joey premiered to solid ratings, scoring 18. 6M viewers for the pilot, inheriting the Friends Thursday-night timeslot. However, viewership declined as the series progressed, averaging 10. 2M viewers in its first season and 7. 1M in its second. NBC pulled the show from its Thursday night programming block in December 2005. The show returned to the network on Tuesdays in March 2006 but was once again pulled after one airing. The network officially canceled the show in May 2006 after two seasons. Eight episodes remained unaired by NBC, although the episodes were broadcast through other networks internationally.
