“It was a little frustrating” – Joe Rogan discusses Islam Makhachev’s relentless takedowns against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322

Joe Rogan recently spoke about the constant pressure from Islam Makhachev that broke down Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. He felt the rhythm of the fight left viewers waiting for Della Maddalena to find an adjustment. However, Makhachev shut down every attempt before it could build into anything meaningful. Ad Rogan pointed to the early calf kicks that slowed the Australian. Once Makhachev sensed the damage, he went straight to the part of his game that has broken so many contenders. His ground control drained the urgency from Della Maddalena’s attacks and forced him into a defensive shell. Speaking about the fight on episode #2414 of The Joe Rogan Experience, he said: “Dude [Makhachev] goes up one weight class, goes up to 170. He was the 155-pound most dominant champion ever. Most title defenses at 155 ever. Just dominates at 170, like every round. People are saying it’s boring, but listen, man, it’s boring if you’re a casual. The fact that he was able to do it every round. It was a little frustrating because you wanted Jack to try to adjust, but he couldn’t, man. Islam shut his game down right away. He low-kicked the hell out of his front leg real quick. Had him limping real quick. Within the first round, he had hit it three or four times bad.” Ad Trending Get the latest updates on One Championship Rankings at Sportskeeda and more He added: “I imagine being Khabib, you know, just your protege is just coming in and Khabib’s even better than him, right? That’s what’s so crazy. That’s how good those guys are. But Khabib’s not a better standup [fighter], though. Islam has really good standup. Khabib’s standup was a means to an end. It was like his standup was to crack you so he’d get a hold of you and mess you up, just drag you to the ground and smash you. That was Khabib’s move. But Islam is knocking people out, man. It’s different.” Ad Check out Joe Rogan’s comments below: Ad Joe Rogan weighs in on Belal Muhammad’s comments to explain Islam Makhachev’s team’s work ethic Joe Rogan shared Belal Muhammad’s reaction to training with Islam Makhachev’s team to talk about their dominance in the aforementioned episode of his podcast. Belal Muhammad, who was the champ at welterweight, went down to Dagestan and trained with those guys. And he was like, I thought I trained hard. I really did. I thought I trained hard until I trained with those guys. That’s how those dudes are really rolling out there. They pray five times a day. They’re super religious. There’s no gambling. There’s no drinking. There’s no partying. There’s just training.” × Feedback Why did you not like this content?
