**The Untold Story of Wolf: The Fan-Favorite Predator from *Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem***
*Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem* isn’t exactly the most revered film in either the *Alien* or *Predator* franchises. With a critical approval rating of just 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, it ranks as the lowest-rated movie in both series. Yet, amid the harsh reviews, there is at least one bright spot: the fan-favorite Predator known as Wolf, portrayed by Ian Whyte, who delivers a memorable performance by taking on the deadly Predalien.
In a 2007 interview with MTV, Colin—one of the film’s creators—shared the story behind the Predator’s nickname. “We call him the Wolf internally because basically he’s Harvey Keitel from *Pulp Fiction*,” he explained. “He’s the cleaner. He shows up and he’s not there for the trophies. If anybody gets in his way, he’ll just cut ’em in half.”
In Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 classic *Pulp Fiction*, Harvey Keitel plays Winston Wolfe, aka the Wolf—a cleaner who “scrubs” crime scenes for mobsters, including one particularly messy incident involving Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson). As the character famously declares, “I’m Winston Wolfe. I solve problems.” This description fits perfectly with our Predator friend in *Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem*, who’s tasked with cleaning up the monstrous mess left behind by the previous film, *Alien vs. Predator*. That film saw a Facehugger implant itself inside the Predator Scar (also played by Whyte), leading to the birth of the terrifying Predalien.
Scroll through any fan forum about *Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem* and you’ll see the same consensus: Wolf rules. An absolute unit of a hunter, this Predator is essentially the Rambo of the franchise. He wages a one-Yautja war against Xenomorphs, humans, and the Predalien—all within a single movie. One can’t help but wonder—would Dutch Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) have stood a chance against Wolf in the first *Predator* film?
For actor and stuntman Ian Whyte—who has portrayed various Predators throughout the franchise and even appeared as an Engineer in Ridley Scott’s *Prometheus*—there’s no doubt who his favorite Yautja is. “Wolf, no question!” he told *Alien vs. Predator Galaxy*. “I poured my heart and soul into him… not to mention blood, sweat, and tears.”
Although Wolf has appeared in a few video games, his film presence was limited to a single appearance, where his character met his end via a nuclear bomb in *Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem*. Considering how convoluted and flexible the *Predator* timeline can be, there remains a tantalizing possibility that Wolf could return in future installments.
For now, fans continue to celebrate Wolf as one of the franchise’s most memorable and badass Predators—proof that even in a critically panned film, a great character can shine through.
