Dramatic footage has emerged capturing the moment a Russian helicopter crashed into a pier, severing its tail, with the pilot then bizarrely attempting to fly out over the Caspian Sea before losing control and crashing. The tragic incident occurred on November 7 in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan region.
According to reports, five senior members of a Russian defense manufacturer, the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant (KEMZ), were among those killed in the crash.
The harrowing clip reveals a badly botched landing that led to the helicopter clipping its tail. After losing the tail rotor, the helicopter drifted along the Caspian Sea, possibly searching for an alternative landing spot. Separate CCTV footage reportedly shows the Ka-226 utility helicopter smashing into a residential building and exploding in flames.
While some have speculated about the cause of the crash, the footage itself suggests it was indeed an accident.
