NFL confirms Josh Allen punishment after Chiefs game

Buffalo Bills starting quarterback Josh Allen may be one of the most high-profile players in the league, but even he was not able to avoid punishment from the NFL this week.

In recent years, the league has been cracking down on touchdown celebrations that it deems violent in nature, including anything related to guns or firearms. This ongoing crackdown caught up with Allen during Sunday’s game.

During the third quarter of the Bills’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Josh Allen ran for a touchdown to extend his team’s lead. Following the score, he ran to celebrate with his teammates, including wide receiver Elijah Moore. To mark the moment, Allen and Moore faced each other and both made finger gun gestures.

However, the NFL was not pleased with the celebration. On Saturday, the league announced fines for both Allen and Moore, citing the gesture as a “violent gesture.” Allen was fined $14,491, while Moore’s fine was $13,888.

Interestingly, as noted by Pro Football Talk, the league did not explain why Allen was fined $603 more than Moore, despite both performing the same celebration at the same time.

It’s important to highlight that the celebration was not malicious, aside from mimicking firearms. Nonetheless, the NFL has made it clear that any references to guns in celebrations remain a point of emphasis in their rules.
