The Denver Broncos defeated the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night to improve to 8-2 on the season, but it certainly wasn’t pretty. The Broncos came away with a 10-7 victory despite a miserable performance from quarterback Bo Nix, and Denver committed 11 penalties.
Yes, a win is a win in the standings, but there is no doubt some concern surrounds the Broncos with the playoffs on the horizon. Former Raiders fullback Marcel Reece, who made three Pro Bowls during his playing days, revealed his brutally honest thoughts on Denver during an appearance on the *Up & Adams Show*.
“So you can tell right now that they have the makings of a good team, but they’re just going to be a good regular-season team,” Reece said. “They may even win the division, but you start to see that this is a one-and-done team, because when it gets to the playoffs, you cannot be one-dimensional. You can’t depend on your defense to bail you out every single time.”
Reece still believes that the Kansas City Chiefs are the best all-around team in the AFC West because of how much they have proven over the years and because they excel on both sides of the ball—a definitely accurate statement.
The Broncos are still a very young team clearly going through some growing pains. However, thanks to their dominant defense, they have managed to grab the best record in football with the rest of the Week 10 slate still to come.
Nix went just 16-for-28 with 150 yards, a touchdown, and a couple of interceptions against the Raiders, his latest uneven performance of the season. He has thrown for 2,126 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight picks while completing just 60.9 percent of his passes and posting an 85.7 passer rating on the year overall.
Reece defended Nix, saying that he likes the young signal-caller but feels that Denver has no offensive identity just yet.
It’s hard to argue with anything Reece said in his assessment. You probably won’t find many people picking the Broncos to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl this February. Perhaps Denver will be able to take another step next season.
