Nintendo (NTDOY) is building a framework for a consistent movie release cadence

Nintendo made a grand return to the big screen with *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, which grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office. Building on this tremendous success, the company is set to maintain that momentum with upcoming releases like *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie* in 2026 and the film adaptation of *The Legend of Zelda* in 2027.

Both movies are already scheduled, and Nintendo has confirmed it aims to establish a consistent cadence of movie releases moving forward. This was highlighted during Nintendo’s corporate briefing for the second quarter of its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026.

The report featured a graphic showcasing the official posters for *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie*, and *The Legend of Zelda*. Notably, the graphic also included two blank spaces marked with question marks, suggesting that more movie projects are in development.

In a brief statement, Nintendo said, “We are continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.” It’s no surprise that the company wants to release films regularly, considering how *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* became one of the highest-grossing films of 2023 and significantly boosted Nintendo’s annual revenue.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa mentioned earlier this year that the company is actively working on various adaptations of its games. Next up is *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie*, hitting theaters in April 2026. This film will see Nintendo collaborate once again with Universal Pictures and Illumination.

Following that, Nintendo plans to release a live-action *The Legend of Zelda* movie with Sony in 2027, further expanding its footprint in the film industry and delighting fans with new adaptations of beloved franchises.
