Social media had plenty to say about UNC’s win in its basketball season-opener Monday night.
Monday night was a long time coming for the North Carolina Tar Heels, who started their 2025-26 basketball season with a dominant 94-54 win over Central Arkansas at home. UNC (1-0) quickly built a double-digit lead when recently-cleared Luka Bogavac converted a layup just five minutes into the game, extending his team’s advantage to 19-8. By halftime, North Carolina’s lead had grown to 28 points.
Virtually everyone contributed for the Tar Heels, who showcased their new-look, deeper, and more talented roster in front of a euphoric Dean Dome crowd. Four of UNC’s five starters scored in double figures: Caleb Wilson (22 points), Kyan Evans (15), Henri Veesaar (14), and Seth Trimble (12). Veesaar, the Arizona transfer, added 10 rebounds to give him a double-double in his North Carolina debut. Evans, shooting 4-of-7 from three-point range, brings the perimeter shooting ability Tar Heel Nation has been desperate for.
Post depth will be a strength for UNC this season, with six players standing 6’10” or taller. North Carolina narrowly missed the discounted Bojangles biscuit mark for fans in attendance, but they left the Dean Dome happy nonetheless.
The Tar Heels, composed of brand-new players from high school and the transfer portal, passed their first 2025-26 test with flying colors. UNC faces a significantly tougher opponent Friday night when the Kansas Jayhawks come to Chapel Hill for a 7 p.m. tip-off. This will be a rematch of last year’s November 8 clash, which Kansas won in a 92-89 thriller.
As you celebrate tonight’s victory and prepare for Friday, take a look at these social media reactions from the college basketball world:
