A week after Ottawa police charged a man with uttering a threat to cause death against singer Morrissey, a social-media account connected to the performer announced the cancellation of upcoming shows in Boston and Mashantucket, Connecticut.
“Due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, the upcoming shows this weekend at Foxwoods and MGM Music Hall have been cancelled,” read an announcement posted on Facebook by the account Morrissey Official on Friday afternoon. The message also reassured fans that all tickets would be refunded automatically at the original point of purchase.
It remains unclear whether the “recent events” mentioned in the announcement specifically referred to the threat incident in Ottawa or to other circumstances.
Morrissey performed at TD Place at Lansdowne Park as part of the CityFolk festival on Friday, September 12. On the same day, police arrested a 26-year-old Ottawa man in connection with a Bluesky social-media post alleged to contain a threat to kill the singer, according to court documents.
CityFolk organizers declined to comment on the incident or whether they had considered canceling the Morrissey show in light of the police investigation. Similarly, efforts to contact Morrissey’s management about whether the Ottawa arrest influenced the decision to cancel the Boston and Connecticut appearances were unsuccessful.
Since his Ottawa performance, Morrissey has also appeared in Toronto and New York City. His official tour website lists dates across the United States, Mexico, and South America extending through early 2026.
In relation to the alleged threat ahead of Morrissey’s CityFolk show, Ottawa police charged Noah Castellano with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. Castellano was released from custody on $5,000 bail and ordered to reside at his father’s home in a suburb of Washington, D.C.
