More details are emerging about former *NYPD Blue* star Kim Delaney’s alleged 2022 hit-and-run incident. According to witness testimony in a new court filing reported by Us Weekly, Delaney is accused of “slurring” her words and exhibiting “unsteady” balance while walking immediately after the crash.
The incident reportedly involved Delaney driving a black Mercedes when she collided with Dzhamal Badalov, who was riding a motorcycle at the time. Badalov has since filed a lawsuit against Delaney, seeking unspecified damages. Delaney, however, denies any wrongdoing.
In court documents submitted by Badalov, witness Ashlee Cartznes provides detailed testimony regarding the events surrounding the crash. Cartznes stated that she was driving with her boyfriend as a passenger when she noticed the black Mercedes quickly approaching their vehicle. The Mercedes abruptly switched lanes to avoid a collision.
Cartznes recalled that the driver slammed on the brakes and stopped in the middle of an intersection, despite the traffic light being red. When the light turned green, she deliberately avoided getting near the Mercedes, which continued to drive “erratically.”
She witnessed the crash between Delaney and Badalov, observing Badalov being thrown off his motorcycle. Cartznes immediately pulled over to check on him.
According to Cartznes, Delaney appeared intoxicated at the scene. She described Delaney as being barefoot, unable to walk properly, unable to focus her eyes, exhibiting unsteady balance, and slurring her speech while attempting to talk.
Following the incident, Delaney was ordered to perform community service and complete a DUI class. A trial date has been set for January 12, 2026.
Kim Delaney is best known for her role as Detective Diane Russell on the ABC drama television series *NYPD Blue*. She earned an Emmy Award for her performance on the show.
