If you’re like us, you’ve likely already binged Harlan Coben’s *Lazarus* since it hit Prime Video on Wednesday. But will there be a Season 2?
**WARNING: Light spoilers for *Harlan Coben’s Lazarus* ahead!**
The new thriller is not based on one of Harlan Coben‘s novels but is an original work co-written by him and Danny Brocklehurst. The series is led on screen by Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy.
While speaking with DECIDER alongside Brocklehurst and series executive producer Nicola Shindler, Coben cited personal loss as inspiration for the series, particularly his father’s passing when he was young.
“So it started with this sort of a wish. I wish I could be with him again. I wish I could hug him one more time. I wish I could see him one more time, talk to him. I think we all have this wish for somebody that we lost. So a lot of this was a father-son story and became a family story,” he shared.
Coben also noted the addition of Alexandra Roach as Laz’s sister Jenna, and the murder of Laz’s twin sister, Sutton (played by Eloise Caruthers-Little), which deepens the family drama.
Speaking to “the desire for a family drama,” Coben recalled the origins of *Lazarus* stemming from a day playing tennis. He looked across the street and spotted a doctor’s office where he had taken his father-in-law, who suffered from severe depression.
“I thought about in those rooms, the psychiatrist’s office, all the misery that you hear about. Every day it’s dark secrets and misery and your worst moments you discuss in that office day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. Where does that energy go?” he elaborated.
“It has to go some place, and what if it seeps in the walls and when the doctor dies, comes back out again. So that was sort of the story part of it. So that’s how we started this particular project.”

### Will There Be a Season 2 of *Harlan Coben’s Lazarus*?
When asked about a potential second season, Coben told DECIDER that he, Brocklehurst, and Shindler “feel this is a complete story.”
“We agreed from day one, all of our stories we were going to treat like we were only going to do one season,” he shared.
“Because I don’t think it’s fair—none of us do—that you have people watch eight episodes and not tell them anything so they have to watch it the next season. It’s just not right or fair. So it’s set up that way.”
However, he acknowledged that the ending definitely leaves room for more story to be told.
“Did we also open a door at the end that maybe we could walk through? I guess, yeah. But that wasn’t really our intent,” he said.
“Our intent was to answer all the questions that you have raised in Episode 1, and [make sure] are answered by the end of Episode 6.”
Sam Claflin, who leads the cast, also weighed in on the prospect of a second season during a separate chat with DECIDER and shared whether he’d be interested in returning if given the chance.
“I loved playing the part so much. I loved the world that we created. I loved all the other characters within it. The one thing I would say is that I’d be curious to see what someone could cook up. So I’d never say no,” he explained.
“But equally, it does feel like it’s sort of a perfect ending where it’s sort of left open-ended. But it depends. It depends on what is written and what is thought out.”
While Claflin claimed he “couldn’t dream of coming up with any ideas” himself, he said that if anyone were to conjure up material worthy of a second season, it would be Coben and Brocklehurst.
“Harlan is a master at this, as is Danny, his co-writer. And I think between them they could probably think of something pretty spectacular,” he said.
“So I definitely would jump at the chance of working with them again.”
