FIVB Men’s World: Libero Elmaarug retires as Libya ends campaign

MANILA, Philippines—Libya ended its 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship campaign with a special moment for one of the team’s most vital members. Foad Elmaarug, who served the Libyan team for over 20 years, announced his retirement on Wednesday night at Araneta Coliseum.

The announcement came after their 25-20, 25-17, 25-12 loss to Japan. Elmaarug’s dedication and long-standing contribution to Libyan volleyball have made him a respected figure in the sport.
