**What’s the story?**

Star Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on his third double-century in Test cricket. The 23-year-old was dismissed on 175 on the second day of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Resuming the day at 173*, the southpaw could not add much to his tally. Nevertheless, Jaiswal scripted numerous records during his stay. Here are his impressive stats.

**Knock: Jaiswal torments the WI bowlers**

Batting first, India got off to a fine start with openers KL Rahul (38) and Jaiswal adding 58 runs. Jaiswal was then involved in a defining 193-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan (87). He also dominated a 74-run stand with skipper Shubman Gill en route to his brilliant 175.

Jaiswal’s scintillating innings powered India past 350 on Day 2 morning.

**Career: An average of 50-plus in Tests**

Jaiswal’s 258-ball 175 included 22 fours. This was his seventh Test century overall. Playing his 26th Test, Jaiswal has raced to 2,420 runs, averaging an impressive 52.60. He also owns 12 fifties.

According to ESPNcricinfo, this was his third 50-plus score across four Tests (5 innings) versus West Indies. It was also his second century against the Caribbean side.

**Jaiswal joins Gavaskar**

Notably, Jaiswal scored 171 against West Indies on his Test debut in 2023. This means he now has two 150-plus scores against them.

Sunil Gavaskar remains the only other Indian opener with multiple scores of 150 or more versus West Indies, achieving the feat four times.

**Feats: Jaiswal registers these records**

As per Cricbuzz, Jaiswal now holds the joint-fourth-most Test centuries before turning 24, with seven. He trails only legends Don Bradman (12), Sachin Tendulkar (11), and Garfield Sobers (9).

Other greats with seven centuries before 24 include Javed Miandad, Graeme Smith, Alastair Cook, and Kane Williamson.

No other opener has scored even five Test centuries since Jaiswal’s debut in July 2023.

**Jaiswal equals this elite Test record of Graeme Smith**

Jaiswal has matched Graeme Smith’s record for the most centuries (7) by an opening batter at age 23. No other opening batter has even six 100-plus scores at this age.

**Milestones: More records for Jaiswal**

This innings was Jaiswal’s fifth 150-plus score in Tests, including two double centuries. Only Don Bradman has had more such scores before turning 23 (eight).

It was also the second time Jaiswal scored 150+ runs on the opening day of a Test in India. Virat Kohli is the only other batter with more than one 150+ score on Day 1 of a Test on Indian soil.

**First-Class stats: Jaiswal goes past 4,500 FC runs**

During this innings, Jaiswal also surpassed 4,500 runs in First-Class cricket, now totaling 4,512 runs in 46 red-ball matches.
