**Zoho’s Arattai App to Introduce End-to-End Encryption for Text Chats**

Zoho, the Indian tech giant, is set to enhance the security of its messaging platform, Arattai, by introducing end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for text messages. The company’s CEO, Mani Vembu, shared this update in an interview with Moneycontrol, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen user privacy.
Currently, Arattai offers a “secret chat” option that allows users to enable encryption for private conversations, though this feature is not yet the default. Vembu stated, “The entire team is focused on making it available to all users soon,” signaling a move towards making encrypted messaging the standard experience on the platform.
### Addressing User Concerns About Security
This development comes following several user inquiries about Arattai’s security, especially after Zoho confirmed that voice and video calls on the platform are already secured with end-to-end encryption. With the addition of encrypted text messaging, Arattai will align itself with global messaging giants like WhatsApp and Signal, which have long prioritized encryption as a fundamental feature.

Arattai is more than just a messaging app—it represents Zoho’s commitment to India’s digital sovereignty. Developed entirely in-house, the platform offers a secure and locally developed alternative to foreign digital services. Launched in early 2021, Arattai was built as a privacy-focused tool suitable for both personal and professional communication.
Backed by over two decades of engineering expertise, the app has steadily improved, catering to a growing demand for greater data privacy and control within India.
### Government Endorsements Boost Arattai’s Profile
Arattai’s significance has been further elevated through endorsements from prominent Union ministers including Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Piyush Goyal. These endorsements position Arattai as a credible indigenous alternative to big tech messaging platforms.
Supporting its philosophy of data sovereignty, Zoho ensures that all user data is hosted within India. The company also avoids ad-based monetization and third-party tracking, reinforcing its commitment to user privacy and control.

Mani Vembu emphasized that despite the surge in interest around Arattai, the focus remains on enhancing the product’s core technology rather than rushing releases. “Security and user trust are at the heart of everything we do,” he affirmed.
Once end-to-end encryption for text chats becomes the default setting, every form of communication on Arattai—voice, video, and text—will be fully protected. This guarantees that even Zoho itself will not have access to users’ private messages, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s evolution toward secure, trustworthy communication.
