Bill Maher Blasts Kamala Harris for ‘Playing Victim’ Over Humiliating Election Loss to Trump… And Jokes Memoir Should Have Been Called ‘Everyone Sucks but Me’

HBO *Real Time* host Bill Maher publicly called out Vice President Kamala Harris’ new memoir, *107 Days*, during his October 3 episode. Maher didn’t hold back, remarking, “Kamala Harris’s new memoir of the ’24 election is called *107 Days*, but should have been called ‘Everyone Sucks but Me.’”

Joining Maher as a guest was CNN commentator Van Jones, a former advisor to President Barack Obama. Shockingly, Jones applauded Maher’s critical take on Harris’ book.

“*107 Days* is a victim’s title because, get it, she only had 107 days to win,” Maher continued. “Yeah. Uh, and a billion and a half dollars and a built-in army of about 75 million people who’d vote for any human-adjacent life form that wasn’t Trump.”

### Harris’ Campaign and Blame Game

Harris’ memoir, released in September, centers on her short-lived presidential campaign, which lasted just 107 days after Joe Biden decided not to run for a second term.

Maher pointed out that in *107 Days*, “nothing is ever Kamala’s fault.” According to Maher, Harris accuses others of letting her down: Biden by not stepping down from the race sooner; Gavin Newsom, who reportedly texted he was “hiking, will call back” — but never did; and even humorously lamented that Newsom “didn’t even ask her to prom.”

In the book, Harris describes her efforts to secure endorsements from prominent Democrats, including Newsom, who she claims was unresponsive after saying he was “hiking” and would return her call.

### “America Itself Lets Kamala Harris Down,” Maher Quipped

One of the more controversial revelations in Harris’ memoir is her decision not to pick Pete Buttigieg as her running mate. She cites concerns that selecting Buttigieg, who is gay, would have been “too big of a risk,” reflecting on the challenges America might face in accepting a woman, a Black woman, and a Black woman married to a Jewish man on the ticket.

In her own words, Harris wrote:

> “But we were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man. Part of me wanted to say, Screw it, let’s just do it. But knowing what was at stake, it was too big of a risk. And I think Pete also knew that — to our mutual sadness.”

Maher responded with a sharp remark:

> “America itself lets Kamala down by not being ready for the running mate she really wanted, Pete Buttigieg. So she’s stuck with the Home Depot paint salesman [Tim Walz], and the rest is history.”

### Harris Praises Hillary Clinton While Taking a ‘Nasty Swipe’ at Joe Biden

During her book tour, Harris praised former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as “a true mentor” who believes in supporting and lifting others.

“We all hope to be mentored. We all hope to have support from those who come before. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. And certainly that’s true of politics,” Harris said. “Hillary Clinton is one of those people that believes in lifting people up and supporting people. And she follows through.”

Although she didn’t mention Joe Biden by name, the social media chatter indicated many saw her remarks as a clear critique of the president’s support—or lack thereof—during her campaign.

### Harris’ Frustrations Regarding Joe Biden

In the memoir, Harris also expresses mixed feelings about Biden, blending warmth and loyalty with hurt and disappointment.

> “My feelings for him were grounded in warmth and loyalty, but they had become complicated, over time, with hurt and disappointment. After warmly welcoming us into the Biden family at the beginning of the campaign, there seemed to be a change of temperature after the election.”

Harris also called out Biden’s lengthy speech at the Democratic National Convention:

> “He spoke for nearly an hour, detailing the accomplishments of our administration. It was a legacy speech for him, not an argument for me, and he was entitled to it. But if we waited for some personal stories about working with me and what qualities he had seen that led him to endorse me, they weren’t there.”

Bill Maher’s blunt assessment and Harris’ candid revelations in *107 Days* have sparked widespread debate about accountability, support, and the complexities of modern political campaigns.
