The legendary ’90s alternative grunge band, Smashing Pumpkins, have announced the cancellation of their much-anticipated debut tour in India. The Chicago-based group cited “unexpected logistical challenges and conditions out of our control” as the reason behind this decision, according to a statement posted on their official Facebook page.
The band was scheduled to perform in Bengaluru on October 11 and Mumbai on October 12 as part of their Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour. This tour marks the band’s first visit to Asia in over a decade, with previous stops in Japan and South Korea dating back 12 and 15 years ago, respectively.
Frontman Billy Corgan, along with James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, expressed their regret over the cancellation, stating, “We cannot perform these shows up to the standards that we and our fans expect.” The live lineup was set to include Jack Bates on bass, Kiki Wong on guitar, and multi-instrumentalist Katie Cole, promising a setlist spanning the band’s three-decade career.
Smashing Pumpkins have left an indelible mark on alternative rock and the ’90s grunge movement. Known for iconic tracks like *Tonight, Tonight*, *Bullet With Butterfly Wings*, *Today*, and *1979*, their innovative sound also shines through experimental albums such as *Adore* and the critically acclaimed *Machina/The Machines of God*.
The Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour began in Japan in September and covers major cities across Asia including Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Busan, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Singapore. The tour was brought to India by EVA Live, who now have to navigate the disappointment of this unexpected cancellation.
Fans eagerly awaiting the Smashing Pumpkins’ live performances in India will be hoping for a future opportunity to experience the band’s legendary sound on their home turf.
