Serica’s Tuxedo Dial Returns to Prove That Field Watches Can Still Look Good Too

Just because a field watch is tough doesn’t mean it has to necessarily look tough. Admittedly, a dress watch is much more stylistically suited for special occasions, but that didn’t stop Parisian watchmaker Serica from debuting its stunning Tuxedo Dial on the military-style Ref. 4512 back in 2022. The timepiece quickly became a cult favorite for its unique combination of elegance and ruggedness.

## The Evolution of Elegance

The original Serica 4512 TXD featured a striking black-and-white enamel dial—an objectively beautiful design, but also notoriously difficult to produce. This manufacturing challenge kept production numbers minimal, adding to its allure. Now, three years later, Serica is bringing back the Tuxedo Dial in the all-new Ref. 6190 TXD, introducing thoughtful refinements without losing what made the original so special.

For the Ref. 6190 TXD, Serica has shifted from the stark black-and-white palette to a warmer black-and-beige combination. A third color appears in the middle sector, creating added depth on the dial. The hand-applied indexes are filled with stark white Super-LumiNova C3, providing vivid contrast and excellent legibility against the beige backdrop. Serica has also reintroduced the brushed handset seen in its earliest field watches—a nostalgic nod to the brand’s heritage that brings additional texture to the overall design.

## Built Like a Tank, Wears Like a Dress Watch

Beneath its refined aesthetic, the 6190 TXD continues the line’s reputation for robust construction. The watch features a 37.7mm stainless steel case that is just 10.4mm thick and measures 46.5mm lug to lug. Twisted lugs and a sculpted bezel add to its distinctive silhouette and reinforce Serica’s signature style.

Despite its dressy appearance, the 6190 TXD remains a tool watch at heart, boasting 200 meters of water resistance for serious durability. Inside, the COSC-certified Soprod M100 automatic movement runs at 28,800 vph, offering reliable timekeeping and a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is paired with Serica’s distinctive Bonklip bracelet, available in three lengths, and for added versatility, the crown can be placed at either the 3 or 9 o’clock position—making it perfect for both right- and left-handed wearers.

## Spec Sheet, Pricing & Availability

Unlike the limited edition 4512 TXD before it, the new Ref. 6190 TXD is not technically a limited edition; however, Serica is capping annual production at 150 units to maintain exclusivity. Priced at €1,190 (approximately $1,398), the 6190 TXD will be available through Serica’s website, their Paris boutique, and authorized dealers starting December 19. Orders open on December 12 at 4:00 PM CET.

The Serica Ref. 6190 TXD stands as a testament to the brand’s ability to blend elegance and toughness, making it a remarkable and rare addition to any collection.
