The Aurora Police Department fired a patrolman on Monday after he was arrested last week in connection with a domestic violence incident.
Aurora officer Philip Sullivan was arrested Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault following an incident at his home in Westminster, according to an Aurora police news release posted on X.com. In addition to the assault charge, Sullivan was also charged with harassment, obstruction, resisting arrest, failure to leave a premise, and prohibited use of a weapon.
Sullivan was hired as a patrolman in January, the news release stated. The department is currently conducting an internal administrative investigation into the matter.
“The charges and behavior alleged in this case are extremely troubling and run counter to the values of the Aurora Police Department,” said Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain in a statement. “We have zero tolerance for conduct that undermines public trust and victimizes others.”
The domestic violence incident is being handled by the Westminster Police Department. Efforts to reach a Westminster police spokesman on Monday night were unsuccessful.
Chief Chamberlain also acknowledged Westminster police’s response to the situation, noting that their officers dedicated significant time and resources to ensure a safe and peaceful resolution.
