According to the Financial Times, Tim Cook may be ready to leave his position as soon as next year. In response, Apple’s board and senior executives have intensified their preparations to secure his replacement.
Cook has been at the helm of Apple for more than 14 years, succeeding Steve Jobs and leading the company to a market capitalization exceeding $4 trillion. Since taking over in 2011, Cook’s tenure has seen the introduction of groundbreaking hardware products such as the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Vision Pro. He has also overseen the expansion of Apple’s services portfolio, including Apple Arcade and Apple TV+.
Sources cited by the Financial Times indicate that Apple’s Senior Vice President of Engineering, John Ternus, is the most likely candidate to take on the CEO role. However, this decision has not yet been finalized.
Ternus has been with Apple since 2001, starting as part of the Product Design team. Over the years, he advanced to a vice president role within the Hardware Engineering division, playing a significant role in Apple’s transition to its own silicon chips.
As Apple prepares for a leadership transition, all eyes will be on how this change shapes the company’s future innovations and strategy.
