Vikings Reveal Aaron Jones Injury Update After Win Over Lions

The Minnesota Vikings ended their two-game skid with a 27-24 victory over the Detroit Lions on November 2 at Ford Field. While the Vikings improved to 4-4, the win came at a cost as Aaron Jones suffered a shoulder injury during the game.

Jones was running the ball effectively, helping provide support for second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who returned under center for the Vikings. The veteran running back totaled 78 rushing yards and added two catches for 20 yards before his injury forced him out of the game.

### Aaron Jones Injury Update

Following the win over the Lions, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell spoke to reporters to share the latest on Jones’s condition.

“Aaron Jones came out of the game, evaluated for, I believe, a shoulder and a toe,” O’Connell said. “We’ll see where he’s at. Hope to get some good news on Aaron, but thought it was a big thing to have him back on the field with us.”

### Will Aaron Jones Miss Time?

The victory puts the Vikings back in the middle of the playoff picture in the NFC as the 2025 NFL season reaches its midway point. Every game now matters, making Jones’s availability critical.

Fortunately, a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reveals that Jones is expected to return for Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens. Jones suffered a minor AC joint sprain in his shoulder but anticipates being able to play in the upcoming game.

When healthy, Jones is the Vikings’ starting running back. However, injuries have limited his time on the field this season, leaving Jordan Mason as the team’s leading rusher for much of the year.

### Lions Take Responsibility for the Loss

Despite the Vikings showing flashes of offensive success with McCarthy back as the starting quarterback, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell took responsibility for his team’s performance in Week 9.

“They executed and made the plays they needed to, and it’s credit to that, too,” Campbell told reporters postgame (h/t Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit). “As far as us, we did everything we needed to do to lose that game. We made every critical area you needed to at the right time to lose it. Perfect storm.

“When you don’t play well in all three phases, that falls on the head because that’s me. I did not have them ready coming out of a bye.”

Campbell explained that mistakes and penalties hurt the Lions throughout the game.

“We made too many mistakes. Some of our discipline issues and the penalties caught up to us. There were moments we were out of sync. We never looked comfortable and just didn’t make enough plays. We had multiple chances to put ourselves in position to win that game, and we didn’t take advantage of any of them. I’ve got to clean some things up and we will. I will.

“We did have a few guys play well, but overall it was just too much. The penalties and turnovers at the wrong times really hurt us. The defense got put in some tough spots, but even then, we expect them to get stops when there’s a sudden change. We just didn’t handle the day well.”
