D&D Review – Starter Set & Stranger Things Collab

Wizards of the Coast recently released two exciting new sets for Dungeons & Dragons: the Starter Set and Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club. I had the opportunity to review both during the latest episode of *Pop! Goes the Culture!* In the review segment, which has been clipped below, I share my thoughts on these fresh additions to the D&D lineup.

The Starter Set essentially transforms D&D into a more conventional tabletop game, making it incredibly accessible for newcomers. The barrier to entry is lower than ever, thanks to pre-made characters, cards for common spells and items, and multiple maps included in the set. These features help simplify gameplay and invite new players to jump right in without feeling overwhelmed.

Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club takes a similar approach but with a unique Stranger Things twist—specifically, an ‘80s theme. This set includes character sheets based on the characters portrayed in the Netflix series, as well as a map inspired by the world from their campaign. Additionally, Wizards of the Coast has introduced new monsters, like the Demogorgon Dragon, enhancing the gameplay experience.

The entire set embraces a vintage ‘80s aesthetic, giving D&D 5th Edition a distinctly retro vibe that fans of both the game and the show are sure to appreciate. If you’re looking to combine nostalgia with tabletop role-playing, this set delivers a fun and immersive experience.
