Diwali festival celebrates culture and tradition in Northeast Fresno

**NORTHEAST FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN)** — One of the most celebrated festivals across India was recently brought to Northeast Fresno. A vibrant Diwali Celebration took place along Maple and Nees Avenues, offering the community a chance to partake in the festivities of the Hindu Festival of Lights.

The event coincided with the official Diwali celebrations, which began Monday and are observed by more than one billion people worldwide, including Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs. Organizers emphasize the deep religious significance of Diwali.

“The importance of Diwali is for us to self-reflect and to rid ourselves of negativity, choose positivity, hope, and goodness,” said Zeal Shah, an outreach administrator for the event. “This is the time of year when all families come together to celebrate these important virtues, live harmoniously, and enjoy the spirit of Diwali.”

Typically, Diwali is celebrated sometime between mid-October and mid-November, marking a period of joy, light, and renewal for millions around the world.
