Otisfield man arrested, charged after shooting woman in hand

An Otisfield man was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault after shooting an AR-15 style rifle in the direction of a woman, injuring her hand on Saturday.

On October 25, at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Oxford County Regional Communication Center received a call reporting that a woman had been shot outside a residence on Bell Hill Road in Otisfield, according to a release from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, joined by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Oxford and Norway Police Departments, Otisfield Fire Department, and ambulance services.

Emergency responders found the 28-year-old victim had been shot in the hand. She was treated at the scene and later transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old John K. Pottle Jr. of Otisfield, reportedly fired an AR-15 style rifle near the victim in a manner described as “reckless,” resulting in her injury.

Authorities seized Pottle’s firearm and arrested him at the scene. He was booked at Oxford County Jail and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault.
