‘Peace in the Middle East’: Trump Highlights Military Strikes and Diplomacy in First Interview Since Historic Deal

In his first interview since signing his historic peace deal in the Middle East, President Donald Trump spoke on Sunday about his efforts to strengthen the United States’ global relations.

Trump told Maria Bartiromo that if the U.S. hadn’t taken out Iran’s nuclear weapons in June, there would have been no way to make the recent peace deal between Israel and Hamas happen.

“I think a very big moment was recently with the taking out of the nuclear weapons from Iran when we flew those beautiful B-2 bombers into Iranian airspace and came out unscathed,” Trump said. “They went in, and they bombed the hell out of it. And when we destroyed their nuclear capability, they no longer became the bully of the Middle East.”

Trump emphasized that the bottom line is the U.S. is procuring peace in the Middle East, “something that nobody thought was possible.”

“To me, peace in the Middle East, that’s a big thing,” Trump said. “I’ve heard the term all my life, ‘Peace in the Middle East.’ For 3,000 years, it hasn’t happened.”

While Trump said he won’t personally develop Gaza, he expressed support for building better homes for the people there, envisioning a place called “Freedom Place” one day.

“We would get all of the people that live there into decent homes throughout the region,” he said. “Look at Gaza. There’s nothing standing. The whole thing is rubble. So it’s not too hard to top that.”

Looking beyond the Middle East, Trump said it’s now time to work towards a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine as well.

“I think we’re going to get Russia done. It’s not easy. I thought that would have been the easiest one,” Trump said. “I have a good relationship with President [Vladimir] Putin. I always have. There’s great potential for trade there, and I hope that we’re going to be successful.”

Trump revealed he has spoken with Putin about whether he is open to ending the war, adding that Putin is going to take land from Ukraine no matter what.

“He has a lot of property,” Trump said. “He’s won certain property.”

It was announced last week that the president will be meeting with Putin in Hungary sometime within the next two weeks. Additionally, he met on Friday at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
