This 1957 Nash Metropolitan hardtop was purchased by the seller in 2011. Since then, several maintenance and restoration tasks have been performed to keep the car in good condition. The 1.5-liter inline-four engine was rebuilt in 2017, the carburetor was replaced in 2021, and both the carpeting and brakes received attention, including an overhaul in 2020. Front seatbelts were also installed for added safety.
Finished in a striking Frost White and Berkshire Green two-tone (P914-P912), this Series III Metropolitan 1500 hardtop features a three-speed manual transmission, 13″ steel wheels with Metropolitan-branded hubcaps, a Continental kit with a soft cover, and black vinyl upholstery over split-folding front and rear bench seats.
Additional exterior details include a fixed roof, a distinctive three-pane rear window, a driver-side mirror, bright trim accents, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes some paint chips, particularly along the bottom edges of the car, as well as a ding in the windshield. Additional imperfections can be seen in the accompanying photo gallery.
The wheels are mounted with 165/80 Maxxis whitewall tires. The braking system consists of drum brakes at all four corners. The brake master cylinder was replaced in 2015, and the entire braking system was overhauled in 2020. In January 2025, the rear leaf-spring bushings, rear wheel cylinders, and emergency-brake cable were replaced to ensure reliable stopping power.
Inside, the cabin offers a classic feel with a painted dashboard, heater, sun visors, and a glove compartment. The carpeting was replaced in 2020, and the installation of front seatbelts under current ownership adds a modern safety touch. The two-spoke steering wheel faces a Smiths 85-mph speedometer with an inset fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 55,000 miles, with about 2,200 miles added while under the current seller’s care; however, the true mileage is unknown as the odometer reading is not verified.
Under the hood, the original 15F 1.5-liter Austin B-series inline-four engine, factory-equipped with a single Zenith downdraft carburetor, was rated at 52 horsepower and 77 lb-ft of torque when new. Recent mechanical updates include a valve-cover gasket replacement, battery terminal change, and an oil and filter service performed in early 2025. The engine’s power is delivered to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the clutch master cylinder was replaced back in 2011.
It is important to note that some corrosion is present on the fuel tank. The trim tag has been decoded to provide further details about this classic car.
This 1957 Nash Metropolitan Series III 1500 hardtop is now offered at no reserve, complete with service records from the current ownership period, an owner’s manual, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name. This is an excellent opportunity to own a charming and well-maintained example of this iconic post-war compact car.
