FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — What was once a long and empty dirt lot near Tulare and Clovis Avenues has now transformed into a bustling commercial hub for southeast Fresno. The Fancher Creek Development features the largest Target store in Fresno at 155,000 square feet, a Sprouts grocery store, an In-N-Out Burger, a PetSmart, and several other retail options.
Local resident Laelani Martinez expressed her excitement about the new dog store opening in the area. “I am so excited for the dog store because I would have to travel all the way to Clovis to get my dog’s nails cut, and now, I can come here,” she said.
Having grown up in a nearby neighborhood, Laelani appreciates the convenience this development offers, saving her both time and gas. She shared, “My drive was maybe, I would say roughly 20 minutes, and now it turned into like 5 minutes.”
Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer highlighted the long journey behind the project. “This project is 20 years in the making at least. From the time the property was acquired to discussions and plans, it’s probably been the better part of two decades,” he explained. The development was led by Lance Kashian & Company.
A 12-year-old visiting with his mother also expressed enthusiasm about the new shopping center. “It’s very nice and we don’t have to drive too far, and it’s really nice over there,” he said.
Mayor Dyer described the Fancher Creek Development as an investment the community rightfully deserves. “It’s an area that often times has not had the amenities as other parts of the city, and we’ve had a population explosion in southeast Fresno as well as Sanger,” he noted.
Sprouts opened earlier this month, with Target scheduled to open on Sunday, October 19. In-N-Out is expected to open in early November, and construction continues on several other new stores.
Mayor Dyer also mentioned that more projects in southeast Fresno are currently underway, signaling continued growth and development in the area.
