DUSU Elections 2025: How Modern Voting Tools Are Reshaping Campus Democracy

DUSU Elections 2025: Overview

The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) Elections 2025 are currently underway, with stringent security and monitoring arrangements implemented to ensure a fair and transparent process. More than 2.75 lakh students are eligible to vote this year, with the ABVP, NSUI, and the SFI-AISA alliance fiercely competing for the presidential posts. Vote counting is scheduled for September 19.

Modernising Student Elections: The Role of Technology

This year’s elections mark a significant step towards modernising the student electoral process. The adoption of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for central panel voting, combined with traditional paper ballots at the college level, reflects a thoughtful compromise between embracing technology and preserving established practices.

In addition to technological upgrades, enhanced security measures, continuous surveillance, and strict norms governing campaigning indicate a coordinated effort by officials to ensure the elections are transparent, safe, and free from misconduct.

Safety and Surveillance Measures

To maintain order and fairness, the authorities have installed 60 new CCTV cameras across North Campus and deployed 160 body-worn cameras to monitor polling booths closely and enforce discipline.

Unapproved vehicles and potential mischief are being controlled through AI-enabled CCTV systems equipped with Automatic Number-Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, alongside special police patrols.

Furthermore, Delhi University has enforced strict policies that prohibit damage to government property and regulate campaign posters, while imposing limits on campaign expenditures.

Students’ Perspectives

According to PTI, Shikhar Suri, a student from Ram Lal College, shared his views:

“Votes here are sometimes distributed on the basis of greed and sometimes on the basis of actual work. I want to see further developments. Like in our college, the fest couldn’t happen for 3-4 years… but it happened last year. So, I don’t know who could possibly come to power. I just ask for better RLA, better South Campus, better Delhi University.”

Who Can Vote in DUSU Elections 2025?

Voting eligibility has been clearly defined for this year’s elections:

– **First-year students** can vote by presenting one valid fee receipt along with a government-issued ID such as Voter ID, Aadhaar, PAN card, or Driving License, in case they do not yet have a college ID.

– **Second- and third-year students** must bring a valid college identity card to cast their vote.

Additionally, only students who have been admitted to Delhi University colleges or departments before 5 PM on September 9, 2025, are eligible to vote.

With these measures, the DUSU Elections 2025 aim to uphold the democratic spirit within the university, ensuring every student’s voice is heard in a fair and secure environment. Stay tuned for the results on September 19.
