**Cyclone ‘Shakti’ Warning Issued for Maharashtra Districts**
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone warning for several districts in Maharashtra, alerting residents to the potential impact of Cyclone ‘Shakti’ between October 3 and 7. The warning applies to Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.
According to the IMD release, winds with speeds reaching 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected to prevail along the North Maharashtra coast from October 3 to 5. Wind speeds may increase depending on the cyclone’s intensity. Sea conditions are forecasted to be very rough, with rough seas along the northern Maharashtra coast until October 5. Fishermen are strongly advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.
In addition to wind and sea warnings, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the interior parts of Maharashtra, particularly in East Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada. There is also a possibility of flooding in low-lying areas of North Konkan due to intense cloud formation and increased moisture infiltration in the atmosphere.
In response to the cyclone warning, the Maharashtra government has issued instructions for preparations. District administrations have been directed to activate their disaster management systems, prepare evacuation plans for residents in coastal and low-lying areas, and issue public advisories. Authorities also emphasize advising against sea travel and ensuring safety measures during heavy rains.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay alert, follow official instructions, and prioritize safety during this cyclone event.
