Lori Loughlin has split from her husband Mossimo Giannulli after a 28-year marriage. “They are living apart and taking a break from their marriage,” Loughlin’s representative Elizabeth Much told *People*. “There are no legal proceedings at this time.” The *Daily Mail* has reached out to representatives for comment but has yet to receive a response.
The split comes after Loughlin was seen apparently being comforted by Anne Heche’s ex-partner and her former co-star James Tupper outside the Bird Streets Club in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Loughlin starred alongside Tupper, 60, in the 2023 TV film *Fall Into Winter* and subsequently appeared with him in the 2024 movie *A Christmas Blessing*.
The estranged couple were initially indicted in 2019 in connection with allegations that they paid admissions fixer Rick Singer $500,000 to arrange for the University of Southern California to recruit their daughters onto the school’s rowing team, despite having no background in the sport. In May 2020, Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to the college admissions bribery case.
Loughlin, known for her role as Rebecca “Aunt Becky” Katsopolis on the hit sitcom *Full House* and its Netflix reboot, received a two-month jail sentence along with a $150,000 fine and 150 hours of community service following her guilty plea. She began her sentence at a federal prison in Dublin, California, in October 2020 and was released that December.
Her husband Giannulli received a five-month sentence with a $250,000 fine and 250 hours of community service. He began his prison sentence in November 2020 and was transferred to home confinement in April 2021, about a month before completing his sentence.
The couple’s scandal was part of “Operation Varsity Blues,” a massive nationwide investigation involving 33 parents. Also notably involved was Emmy-winning actress Felicity Huffman, who served 11 days in custody in 2019 after pleading guilty in the same case.
Just days before federal agents arrested Loughlin’s parents for their involvement in the conspiracy, the influencer had given followers advice on applying to universities. She later apologized for those comments and returned to social media following a brief hiatus when the scandal unfolded in March 2019.
Earlier this year, Loughlin insisted she was a “straight A student” who “worked really hard” in high school, even before her parents paid $500,000 for her to get into the University of Southern California.
Professionally, Loughlin’s legal troubles kept her sidelined from the fifth season of *Fuller House*. She made her return to television in late 2021 with a two-part Christmas special for the series *When Hope Calls*. In June 2022, she appeared on her first red carpet since the scandal, attending the DesignCare 2022 Gala at RJ’s Place, benefiting the HollyRod Foundation.
In 2024, Loughlin spoofed her legal mishap alongside Larry David on *Curb Your Enthusiasm* in the sixth episode of the show’s 12th season. She played a fictionalized version of herself seeking David’s help to rejoin an exclusive golf club after being kicked out following the scandal. The episode features David having second thoughts as Loughlin, an avid golf enthusiast, engages in ruthless tactics once she is readmitted.
Executive producer Jeff Schaffer told *The Hollywood Reporter*, “We called her manager up, who loved it, and who then talked to Lori, and she said: ‘I’m in, I’m totally game.’ And she was. She was so great. Everything we threw at her, she was game to do. She makes the episode. I’m so glad she wanted to do it.”
In April 2024, Loughlin spoke to *FIRST for Women Magazine* about how she handled the fallout from the life-changing series of events. “I try to be a forgiving person,” she said. “I’m not one to hold onto stuff. Stuff happens to everyone.”
“We’ve all been in positions to ask for forgiveness, but to ask for it, you have to learn and know how to give forgiveness, too,” she added. Loughlin stressed that “no one is perfect, we all make mistakes,” and shared that she “was always told to let stuff go.”
She continued, “My family wasn’t one to hold grudges. I didn’t grow up in a household where if you made a mistake, you weren’t forgiven.”
Loughlin concluded, “I think for your own health, you have to let things go because you can’t hang on to negativity. Life’s too short.”
