**Family of Five Narrowly Escapes Fatal Accident as Car Plunges into 11-Foot-Deep Pit in Saharanpur**
In a harrowing incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, a family of five narrowly escaped a fatal accident after the car they were traveling in plunged into an 11-foot-deep pit during the early hours of Wednesday.
The pit, reportedly dug by a municipal contractor, was left open without any warning signs or barricades. The mishap occurred around 1 a.m. when Virendra, a resident of Jukhedi village, was driving his ailing mother to Gangoh for medical treatment. Along with Virendra, his wife, children, and brother were also present in the vehicle.
As the car moved along a poorly lit stretch of road, it suddenly fell into the large pit located in the middle of the carriageway. Fortunately, all family members managed to escape the vehicle without any major injuries. Locals promptly came to their aid and helped pull them to safety, after which the ailing mother was rushed to the hospital.
Videos from the scene have surfaced online, including footage showing the car being lifted out of muddy water by a crane.
Villagers have expressed outrage over the incident, holding the municipal contractor responsible for the negligence that led to the pit being left open. The contractor had reportedly dug the pit for water boring work but failed to secure the site properly, endangering lives.
This incident highlights the urgent need for better safety measures and accountability to prevent such dangerous occurrences in the future.
